You also need to watch out for playing a flush when you do not have an Ace-high. A common occurrence is for a player to hit a flush on the Flop with a hand like 9-T suited and then the Turn or the River is a 4th card of the same suit. Of course, any player holding a J of that suit or better has the winning hand, so it is not a good idea to get too carried away slow playing a flush unless you have the nut flush. It won't get you into trouble every time, but occasionally it will and you will regret it big time.
Slow playing hands in a valuable tool to have in your arsenal for both online play and off. Unless you are going to be eaten up by the blinds in a round or 2, wait for a good position against another small stack, or wait for some half way decent cards that at least give you a chance to double up. If you are going to push all in with a junk hand, then you might as well sit and be blinded off anyway. Also, you have the benefit of catching a big hand and putting yourself in good position to advance further in the tournament. A�I had a less than average chip stack in this tournament as well, but by being patient after the bubble, I was able to catch some hands and some good situations and finish 3rd netting me several thousand dollars.
Remember this when you have past the bubble: you have come this far. Spend a little more time looking for a good spot to double up and you will find that A�you at least move up a few rungs on the pay scale. You have already put the time in anyway and have nothing to lose and $$$ to gain.
